Trailers over 2,000 lbs must be tagged and registered.
Trailers can be up to 53 feet long and 8.5 feet wide; overall towing length limit is 65 feet for double trailers.
Safety chains, working brakes (trailers over 3,000 lbs), taillights, turn signals, and reflectors are mandatory.
Loads must be secured; overhanging loads require proper marking.
Maximum speed for towing a mobile home: 55 mph.
Only one trailer may be towed behind passenger vehicles (special permits for oversize trailers).
Kansas City and Jackson County require towing companies to be licensed; predatory towing is targeted by local ordinances with strong penalties.
